World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The item upgrade lets players increase the gear rating of an item up to 700 points and add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you take them to the Kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading because of their unique stats. (For instance, a perfectly rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons aren't changed much after an upgrade, and aren't worth the effort.
Weapons
Upgrades to weapons can boost their numerical stats, such as attack damage, crit chance, and PvE/PvP damage. They also have a flat bonus that increases their damage per second. Some weapons also have a fixed bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are used in a unit. This bonus may be more than the damage that an upgrade can do on its own.
